After years of printing shirts, I can tell you the mistake that hurts the most isn't a typo in the design or a color that's slightly off — it's the wrong size. A design can be reprinted. A size can't. Why your usual size can lie to youليه مقاسك المعتاد ممكن يخدعك
Most people walk in and say "I'm a Large" like it's a law of nature. But a Large is not a standard — it's whatever that brand decided it is. One maker's Large measures 22 inches across the chest; another's is 20.5. Cuts differ too: a classic unisex tee is straight and roomy, a "fitted" or fashion tee runs narrower and shorter, and women's cuts are shaped differently again — shorter sleeves, a tapered waist, and usually a full size smaller than the unisex shirt carrying the same letter on the tag. The flat-lay test — the method I use in the shopطريقة القياس اللي بستخدمها في الورشة
Here's the trick I give every customer who's unsure. Take a t-shirt you already own that fits exactly the way you like, lay it flat on a table, and smooth it out. Measure straight across the chest, armpit seam to armpit seam — double that number and you have the chest measurement. Then measure the length from the highest point of the shoulder down to the hem. Compare those two numbers with the size chart of the shirt we're printing on. Two numbers, no guessing. It works because you're comparing shirt to shirt, not shirt to a memory of a letter on a tag.الحيلة اللي بديها لأي عميل محتار: هات تيشيرت عندك لابسه ومريحك بالظبط زي ما تحب، افرده على ترابيزة وملّسه كويس. قيس العرض من خياطة الباط لخياطة الباط على طول — اضرب الرقم في اتنين ويبقى عندك مقاس الصدر. وبعدين قيس الطول من أعلى نقطة في الكتف لحد آخر التيشيرت من تحت. قارن الرقمين دول بجدول مقاسات التيشيرت اللي هنطبع عليه. رقمين بس، من غير تخمين. الطريقة دي بتنفع لأنك بتقارن تيشيرت بتيشيرت، مش تيشيرت بذكرى حرف على تيكت.
Fit changes how the print itself looksالمقاس بيغيّر شكل الطباعة نفسها
Size isn't only about comfort — it changes the artwork. A design on a relaxed-fit shirt sits flat and reads exactly as drawn. Put that same design on a fitted, stretchy shirt and it stretches with the fabric every time you move: fine lines spread and circles turn into ovals. The reverse happens too — a wide design made for an XL wraps around the sides of a Small and looks squeezed. That's why, on mixed-size orders, I scale the print slightly for the smallest and largest shirts instead of stamping one size on everything. It takes a little longer, and it looks right on every body.المقاس مش راحة بس — هو بيغيّر شكل الشغلانة. التصميم على تيشيرت واسع بيقعد مستوي وبيتقري زي ما اترسم بالظبط. حط نفس التصميم على تيشيرت فيتد بيمط، هيتمدّد مع القماش كل ما تتحرك: الخطوط الرفيعة تعرض والدواير تبقى بيضاوي. والعكس بيحصل كمان: تصميم عريض معمول لإكس لارج هيلف حوالين جسم اللي لابس سمول ويبان مزنوق. عشان كده في الأوردرات اللي فيها مقاسات مخلوطة، بظبّط مقاس الطباعة سنة على أصغر وأكبر مقاسات بدل ما أختم مقاس واحد على الكل — بياخد وقت أزيد شوية، وبيطلع مظبوط على كل جسم.
Shrinkage: the size you buy isn't the size you keepالانكماش: المقاس اللي اشتريته مش هو اللي هيعيش معاك
A 100% cotton shirt typically shrinks about 3–5% in the first wash or two, mostly in length — so a shirt that felt perfect in the shop can ride a little shorter after laundry day, especially if it sees a hot wash or a hot dryer. "Preshrunk" cotton shrinks far less, and cotton-polyester blends (50/50 or 60/40) barely shrink at all and hold their shape better. If you like a little extra length, or you're between sizes, that shrinkage is one more reason to go one size up.التيشيرت القطن 100% بينكمش حوالي 3–5% بعد أول غسلة أو غسلتين، وأغلب الانكماش بيبقى في الطول — يعني التيشيرت اللي كان مظبوط في الورشة ممكن يقصّر سنة بعد يوم الغسيل، خصوصًا لو اتغسل بمية سخنة أو دخل مجفف سخن. القطن الـ«بري شرنك» (المنكمش مسبقًا) بينكمش أقل بكتير، والخلطات قطن/بوليستر زي 50/50 أو 60/40 تقريبًا مش بتنكمش وبتحافظ على شكلها أحسن. لو بتحب التيشيرت طويل شوية، أو محتار بين مقاسين، الانكماش ده سبب كمان تختار الأكبر.
Fabric weight matters more than people thinkوزن القماش بيفرق أكتر ما الناس متخيلة
Two shirts in the same size can feel completely different. Lightweight tees (around 4.3 oz) are soft and breathable — great for summer events — but they drape close to the body and show every contour. Heavyweight tees (around 6 oz) hold their own shape, look more structured, and give a print a firm, flat surface to sit on. For work crews who'll wear the shirt five days a week, I almost always recommend the heavier blank: it survives the wash cycle better, and the print stays sharp longer.تيشيرتين بنفس المقاس ممكن إحساسهم يبقى مختلف تمامًا. الخفيف (حوالي 4.3 أونصة) ناعم وبيتنفس — ممتاز لمناسبات الصيف — بس بيقعد ملزّق على الجسم وبيبيّن كل تفاصيله. التقيل (حوالي 6 أونصة) واقف بهيبته وشكله مظبوط أكتر، وبدي الطباعة سطح ثابت ومستوي تقعد عليه. لطواقم الشغل اللي هيلبسوا التيشيرت خمس تيام في الأسبوع، بنصح تقريبًا دايمًا بالخام التقيل: بيستحمل الغسيل أكتر، والطباعة بتفضل حادة أطول.

The classic group-order story: the organizer guesses everyone's sizes to save time, I print thirty shirts — and twenty-eight of them are wrong for somebody. It happens with family reunions, church groups, and work crews alike. Do it the way experienced organizers do: send everyone a quick message and collect sizes in writing, add two or three extra shirts in Medium and Large (they always run out first, and someone always changes their mind), and remember that an adult Large and a women's Large are different shirts. If it's a gift, size upلو هدية، كبّر المقاس
When the shirt is a gift and you can't ask, go one size up from your best guess. A slightly loose tee gets worn at home, at the gym, everywhere. A slightly tight one gets worn never. And if you're truly stuck between two sizes on any order, choose the larger — in all my years at the press, "I wish I'd gone smaller" is a sentence I have almost never heard.لو التيشيرت هدية ومش هينفع تسأل، اختار أكبر درجة من أحسن تخمين عندك. التيشيرت الواسع سنة بيتلبس في البيت وفي الجيم وفي كل حتة. والضيق سنة مبيتلبس خالص. ولو محتار بين مقاسين في أي أوردر، اختار الأكبر — في كل سنين شغلي على المكبس، جملة «ياريتني كنت اخترت الأصغر» دي تقريبًا مسمعتهاش.
